Now don't everyone comment at once. Here are my thoughts on this week's readings. To me, these first 18 verses tell us all we need to know about Christ.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, I think that the true light is the truth, knowledge, love and hope found in Jesus. This light is shown to every man but only some will recognize it and therefore be saved. It makes me wonder why would anyone turn away from or reject this true light. In my opinion, most turn away because knowing the light will change a person and how they live. This is something that we don't want to do, its easier and "more fun" to not have Christ and the living for others that comes with Him.
I think that verse 11 shows how we can expect to be rejected when sharing Him, especially by those who knew us before we lived for Christ. In fact, God used this truth in order for us, non-Israelites, to hear about Him. When the Israelites rejected Him then His Word was taken to others through Paul.
The next couple of verses show us that God allows us to become "Children of God." Wow! I don't understand how such a great and awesome God would choose us.
I think it is important to understand these next couple of verses and the importance of Jesus giving up heaven and taking on flesh. Just think, He gave up living in heaven (where He was constantly being worshiped) and became a man (not a worldly king but a carpenter) because He loved us and wanted us so much. But of course that isn't where it ends, He suffered (being rejected and tortured) and died (feeling the pain for all of our sins) for us also.
It is because of this love that He has for us that we should be looking to return His love and to do what verse 15 says. This is to live for Him and not for ourselves. We should do all things in order that He will be glorified and we will become less.
The last verse of this week's readings explains to us how we can know God. The only way to know who God is, is through Jesus Christ. "He has explained Him." If we study who Christ was and is, we can know God because He is God.
I pray for you who are reading this as well as myself right now. I pray that if you know Christ that you will try to know Him more intimately and allow Him to master your life. That He will not only be someone who you read about and know what He did, but that you would be thinking about Him in every situation and always wanting to make His name known through your words and actions.
I pray for those of you who don't know Him. That you might understand that you need Him in your life. He loves you and He sacrificed Himself for you and all He asks in return is that you love Him back. It does mean that your life will change but these changes will be ones that you will gladly make once you begin doing them for Christ. Think about it and continue to read the book of John with us to see more about our Lord and Savior.
